[Kato's sudden outburst startles Dist just about as much as Nagi's chair stunt did. Dist has known Kato for years, and he's only ever seen him get this emotional about something one other time. Kato's emotional stability is incredibly solid, so it's really shocking to Dist to see him react this way.

He straightens up, holding his hands up in front of himself as a motion that everything is okay and his partner can calm down.]

Hey, hey- I am fine. As unnecessary as the chair stunt was, he didn't actually do anything to me!

[Kato's always been so good at talking Dist down from outbursts like this, but it happens so infrequently with Kato, Dist hasn't a clue what to do here.

He starts by making his own tone level and calm. Hopefully that'll help Kato understand that everything is fine.]

He did explain himself afterword. He expressed resentment for how the first test went, and naturally I completely disagreed with him because he knew he should have been expecting something truly difficult when he spoke so highly of himself.

[He pauses, warily watching Kato's expression as he continues. He knows Kato isn't going to like this next bit but it's for the best to get it out in the open now rather than him learning about it later on.]

He told me that he was operating under a handicap at the time he took his test because he had not yet grown used to his lack of ability, and wished to practice to overcome that handicap once his powers went away.
